6th Annual Nonprofit 'Director of the Year' Awards

The Organization for Nonprofit Executives (ONE) is excited to announce the 6th Annual Nonprofit 'Director of the Year' Awards. ONE recognizes nonprofit directors who are examples in the community and are dedicated to excellence in the management and leadership of their organizations. This is the perfect opportunity for staff, board members and community members to promote the achievements and community impact of their nonprofit executive director's dedicated work.

Eligibility Requirements
Any Executive Director of a nonprofit organization with a 501(c) (3) status in Arizona may be nominated. Nominee must have held their current Executive Director position for at least 3 years.

Nominations
Nominations must be submitted online through ONE's website and be received between August 14 and October 5, 2007. A maximum of two, 1-page, letters of support will be accepted (one from a board member and another from staff or community member.) Letters should be mailed to ONE P.O. Box 337, Litchfield Park, AZ 85340 or faxed to (623) 518-4615.

Multiple nominations will not be considered. In case of duplication, only the first nomination received will be accepted.

Nominations must be read and approved by the nominee.

Deadline for Nomination
October 5, 2007 by 5:00pm

Recipients
An Executive Director will be honored in each of three categories: small, medium, and large organization (based on annual budget ~ see form below.)

Nominations will be judged by a prestigious panel of CEO's, nonprofit Executive Directors and business partners.

Honorees will be announced on November 3. The Awards will be presented at ASU’s Center for Nonprofit Leadership and Management 14th Annual Nonprofit Conference at the end of November, 2007.

Application Essay

We are interested to hear how your nominee demonstrates their leadership skills, management abilities, and what motivates them to work in this field. We want to know how they actively contribute to the mission and vision of the organization.

Please tell us how your Executive Director excels in each area below. Each section should be no more than 500 words, single spaced using 12 point font.

1. Skills & Knowledge - Address the candidate's ability to communicate effectively, solve problems, organize work, maintain accuracy while multitasking, manage change, demonstrate sensitivity to diversity, and work effectively under pressure.

2. Demonstrated leadership in the community - Address candidate's rapport with stakeholders including collaboration and goodwill, ability to inspire and motivate, and adjust for changes & trends. How has leadership impacted board effectiveness?

3. Leadership in the Organization - Address candidate's ability to further mission & vision, meet strategic plans, participate in formation & implementation of policies & procedures, provide leadership in resource development and fiscal management.

4. Staff Development. - Address candidate's ability to inspire new leaders, coach & mentor staff, respond to special needs, and elicit a high level of productivity.
